  13. Friday, 1st november:
  14. ---------------------
  15. My plane landed in Paris at 9.30am after a 2 hours boring flight with
  16. Air France. After paying 80 FF for the train ticket, i headed for Chelles.
  17. Of course, there were signs everywhere in Chelles showing the direction of
  18. the party, except around train station. Anyway, i arrived to the partyplace
  19. around 12.30pm. The Culture Centre where the party was held was really
  20. beautiful - too good for a party, i thought, though it was said to be the
  21. same place where the previous Saturnes were held, too - in spite there was
  22. no lasting trace of them around ;))
  23. The building covered 2 big halls, an opened inner corner between the 2 halls,
  24. and a sleeping-room (though in spite i rather chose the comfort of undertable)
  25. The entrance fee was 120 FF (36 DM) that i think is quite fair compared to
  26. similar foreign events and you even got a votebook, infosheet and headache
  27. for it (i had to fill an attendance sheet on french keyboard...arrgghh...
  28. with all my private infos - probably, they didn't ask my foot-size yet only)
  29. Anyway, i got in the room and pitched tent a few metres from the entrance.
  30. In the afternoon, there was an outdoor crash compo (not baseboards only, but
  31. whole machines!) and a Duke Nukem compo.
  32. The first shocking news got me after this event only. There was NO Internet
  33. connection from the partyplace, in spite it was promised in the invitation.
  34. I agreed on thursday with EFT/Impulse (coder) we meet or irc at 19h on friday
  35. in order to receive the new 64kb Impulse intro to compete with, but I
  36. couldn't, so this case we gave chance to win someone else, too ;)
  37. In the evening i wanted to go out for having fun and boozing with some
  38. friends, but haven't found any pubs nor "knife-throwing" places around the
  39. partyplace (seems the French ppl live too sober life) So we stayed and
  40. watched the Wild and Fast compos all the night. After these compos, till
  41. morning,  videofilms and demos were presented on the bigscreen (or at least
  42. i heard something like that, under the table)
  43.  
  44. Saturday, 2nd november:

  46. At 8am ZanOne! (my hungarian friend) and me woke up and went to Paris. 
  47. Somehow it seemed a bit smaller on map. Especially like the way we did it, by
  48. foot. But that's for sure, if somebody invites me in the evening for a 10 mins
  49. walk-around only, i tear out his balls immediately.
  50. Anyway, we arrived back to the partyplace sometimes around 5pm. The module
  51. compo delayed 2 hours. I was really awaiting it, since i was contributing,
  52. too... Finally it started... 12 modules were selected... The first module was
  53. played...the 2nd, too... 3rd...4th...5th... 11th... 12th... but where's my
  54. one?! I really wondered, because anybody whom i played my module before,
  55. enjoyed it very much. And I was working on it for more than 2 weeks, so i
  56. didn't want to acquiesce in it at all. I rushed immediately to Vodka to
  57. complain. He told he tries to go after what had happened. Later he came back
  58. and told not only mine, but the winner of last Saturne's module-compo (the
  59. italien Fby's) module was not played either. Vodka explained, the guy who
  60. selected the modules somehow 'forgot' to listen to our modules (we were the
  61. only foreigner contributors!)... So, I got really disappointed...
  62. The graphics compo was the next one. All the pictures were shown twice. I
  63. think, the screen was quite good, big and enough colourful for my colour-blind
  64. eyes, too.... Just after the graphics, the raytracing compo came of course...
  65. And then a break. Or at least i thought. But Tetsuo/Saturne (member of the
  66. staff) appeared on the stage, the ligths went down, and he made a fast
  67. strip! on the stage. Needless to say thunderous applause afterall (though i
  68. rather vote for girls) ... After his unexpected dance, 8 (from far) pretty
  69. girls continued the dance-show. hmmmm. i feeled the same as in a disco,
  70. probably the only difference was less girl with even more dress... After their
  71. 10-15 mins dance, Tetsuo came back to the stage and pawed the girls in a dance
  72. with them.
  73. The compos continued after the girls had left the stage in the protect hands
  74. of their crusaders.
  75. Twelve crap 64kb intros were shown next (pc and Amiga intros together!), but
  76. there were perhaps maximum 2 pc 64k only! Seems the 68030 power is still far
  77. better and more popular than the p120!
  78. After the successful Amiga demos some failing PC ones continued. Mentasm's
  79. production (the winner of PC demos) wanted to run on the 4th attempt only.
  80. But it's usually on pc.
  81. By the morning some more films and demos were shown again on the bigscreen
  82. (and later, i was told, even Fby's and my 'forgotten' modules were played,
  83. too, during the night... but out of competition unfortunately ;( )

  85. Sunday, 3rd november:
  86. ----------------------
  87. After a dawn got up at 9am, i searched for Vodka and copied all the party
  88. releases from him (35 mb in .lzx) thanks man!
  89. The awarding ceremony began around 13.30pm. But the thing i really
  90. wondered at, was, the results were not shown on the bigscreen at all,
  91. only announced in French!

  94. A few more general opinion:
  95. ---------------------------
  96. - very cheap buffet and the thing, that surprised me a lot, pizza was sold
  97.   from a caravan just about 10 metres in front of the building on less price
  98.   than anywhere else in the town!
  99. - the kindness of the organizers were unbelievable, especially Vodka, Tetsuo
  100.   and Tetsuo mama
  101. - the rest rooms were as neat as a pin ; the toilette-paper was not used
  102.   for floor-covering, the mirrors were clean and unbroken, there was warm
  103.   water and shower as well (though in a near building only, but nobody
  104.   became snowman while he got back - as e.g it was on TP5)
  105. - there was a shopping street about 100 metres far (although on friday evening
  106.   nothing was opened, except a flower shop all night)
  107.   but the nearly supermarket was opened even on sunday, too
  108. - i haven't seen beggars, trashcan-divers nor drunk man! on the streets
  109.   at all
  110. - Though alcohol was forbidden of course (why of course?!), i took some
  111.   "soft-drink", too, and when an organizer noticed me drinking not tee,
  112.   he just warned me to do it rather hidden, and he didn't call half of the
  113.   security to come over here, show me their muscles and bowel out all my
  114.   luggages (as it happened on The Parties)
  115. - the number of attandents was around 800-1000 that is quite acceptable for
  116.   me (the strangers were 3-4 italien, 2 german and 2 hungarian), but
  117.   unfortunately the most french traitor rather prefered to go to the PC ONLY
  118.   Wired party to Belgium, thus i didn't meet with a lot of friends of mine ;(
  119. - Duke Nukem went to my nerves already. I don't know the guy who played
  120.   on maximum volume on the bigscreen was deaf or idiot, but listening to
  121.   shoots and death for 2 hours is terrible.

  123. Productions:
  124. ------------
  125. - demos: better demos than released on Saturne III, that's for sure
  126.          (Haujobb, Syndrome (Hardcore), Gods, Led)
  127.          but SCENE groups already should stop making demos with no jokes
  128.          and l(AMOS) code!
  129. - intros were just average, with no design and code at all
  130. - musics: too many boring modules (some tekkno or unspeakable jazz themes)
  131.           Probably the (pre)selector was the same deaf Duke Nukem star.
  132.           Only 2 modules out of 12 were multichannel ; Seems the number of
  133.           channels is not enough either...
  134.           something is still missing from the pc musicians... the talent
  135. - graphic: just 4-5 better ones (Tenshu, Made, HP, Hardfire, Rendall)
  136.            Too many idiot pictures

  138. Overall feeling:

  140. Anyway, what the party was like, in sum up? Hard to say. The party itself
  141. certainly won't get in the top 10 parties ever, but in spite this, the party
  142. atmosphere was not that bad (though i missed those party animals) and no
  143. doubt, Paris is unforgettable.
  144. And that's for sure, the kindness of the organizers either will be
  145. never-to-be-forgotten for me (they invited me for a pizza, because i came from
  146. so far away, helped me arranging everything, e.g. managing to find a place to
  147. stay, due to the fact my plane departured one day after only)

  150.           So, Anyway, i think, i didn't regret at all going to Paris!
